Match Review R16 (1) | Kelantan The Real Warriors FC 1-2 Selangor FC | Malaysia Cup 2026 | Important Victory

Selangor FC managed a comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over Kelantan The Real Warriors FC in the first leg of the Round of 16 at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, Kota Bharu, yesterday.

Kelantan The Real Warriors FC offered strong resistance from the very start, taking the lead in the 25th minute through Simon Lyngbo, ending the first half 1-0 in their favour.

In the second half, Selangor FC increased the pressure, and the team efforts paid off when team captain Faisal Halim equalised in the 61st minute before completing his brace in stoppage time at 90+3’, securing a 2-1 away victory for the Red and Yellow.

Selangor FC Head Coach, Kim Pan-gon acknowledged the strong challenge posed by the opposition and expressed confidence that this win would boost the team’s morale ahead of the home leg.

“Tonight’s match was very tough from the start as the opponents played in a highly organised manner and posed a strong challenge to our team. Despite the difficulties, the team kept striving to play in Selangor FC’s way and gradually strengthened our style of play,” Kim Pan-gon explained.

“The most remarkable aspect was the unity and resilience shown in the second half. The players managed to overcome challenging situations, and what they demonstrated is very meaningful. Furthermore, this is an important win for the team, and I am confident we can perform even better in the second leg at home,” he added.

From yesterday’s #TRWSFC Malaysia Cup 2025/26 match, several key points emerged:

Captain Leads the Way
Faisal Halim, captain of the Red Giants, was the standout player, helping the team secure victory at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium with two crucial goals in the 61st minute and 90+3’ stoppage time, earning him the Man of the Match award for #TRWSFC. This season, “Mickey”, as he is known, has scored 14 goals: Super League (3), FA Cup (7), Malaysia Cup (2), ACLTWO (1), and Shopee Cup (1). Overall, he has scored 30 goals for Selangor FC.

This victory would not have been possible without the collective effort of all the players who fought for the win yesterday.

Next, Selangor FC will continue their Malaysia Cup 2025/26 campaign with the second leg of the Round of 16 against Kelantan The Real Warriors FC at 8:15 PM. Support the team by attending the match at the stadium. Tickets are available here.

Selangor FC’s management expressed satisfaction with the team’s hard work and hopes the players will continue to deliver excellent performances in the second leg of the Round of 16.
